My daughter is 8 years old, she is now a purple belt and started karate with Sensei Everett when she was 5 years old.

She was well motivated since the beginning: she loved to go to class and not even once, in all these years, she said “ I don’t want to go”.

I believe the great merit of this goes to Sensei Everett: he is dedicated to the kids, he knows how to keep them interested and motivated, and most of all HE TEACHES BECAUSE KARATE IS  HIS PASSION!

Martial arts helped my daughter to develop discipline, self control, courage, confidence, patience. She understands now that to achieve goals in life she has to work hard, not for hours or days, or weeks, but months and years. I believe this is a great life lesson!

Karate is becoming “her way of life”.

Sensei Everett requires focus and discipline, but he is also patient and encouraging when the kids need it.

As I see the physical strength of my daughter grow , I truly believe that I found in Sensei the right teacher to give her those “fighting” principles that will help her in all aspects of life.

I started coming to the dojo with my son.  He had taken karate classes in Illinois before we moved to Fishers.  When he expressed interest in starting karate again, we looked at several programs in the area.  We were most impressed with Sensei Everett’s school, and my son enrolled.  I started to attend a daytime class myself about four years ago.  At that time it was a class mostly comprised of students’ mothers.  It was a very fun, low-key atmosphere.  Due to my schedule I couldn’t attend the daytime class twice a week.  So, I started coming to the evening class as well.  At first I was a little nervous because I thought I might be the oldest student in the class, or I might be the only woman.  Once I came to class I was happy to see the variety of students, and I fit right in.

I originally decided to start taking karate because it looked like a fun way to get some exercise.  I am happy to say, it is that and so much more.  As a physician, I am frequently advising patients to be more active and to find something to get passionate about.  A successful exercise program is one that you enjoy doing, which you can do with consistency, and that you feel something missing if you have to skip it.  Karate has been that “something” for me.  There is a great sense of camaraderie in the school.  Sensei Everett and the other students are life family.

Karate classes have certainly helped me with my fitness goals.  But unlike other exercise programs, there have been some unique benefits.  In studying kata, I have improved my sense of focus, concentration, balance, strength, and self-confidence.  There is a level of personal intensity that you can achieve in doing single-person training such as kata.  The partner training adds additional benefits such as timing, practical application of skills, and group motivation.  At the end of a long day at work, it feels great to come to the dojo and punch and kick the targets.  It is a great form of stress-reduction.  In addition to the structured classes on Saturdays, there is also a physical conditioning class which includes interval training, circuit training, and weight training.

Most importantly, I have learned a lot about self-defense.  Sensei Everett’s program focuses heavily on the traditional aspects of the martial arts.  He teaches the history and philosophy behind the kata.  In addition, he teaches practical applications of the kata.  But he has also developed his own self-defense curriculum.  This allows the introduction of a variety of modern techniques which make the applications more practical.  We learn to defend ourselves against a variety of attacks (chokes, headlocks, wrist grabs, punches, kicks, knife attacks, etc.).  We practice the techniques multiple times over many months to develop a sense of mastery.

Sensei also teaches separate Brazilian jiu-jitsu and mixed martial arts curricula.  I hope I never need to use my martial arts training for this purpose, but I can carry myself now with a sense of confidence that I did not have before.

“It is certainly true that in Mr. Everett’s martial arts school the focus is directed towards teaching effective techniques with workable solutions in serious self-defense situations.  However, even more importantly, his students are taught the same Respect, Discipline and Control, that develops confidence and self esteem along with so many important strong physical qualities.  Without a doubt, Mr. Everett helps build leaders!”

“Tom Everett has been my karate instructor for close to thirteen years.  His leadership is strict with compassion.  He has a sense of humor that adds to his instructor ability, with a story telling frame of mind that is very enlightening and interesting.  He is passionate about learning and passing his knowledge on to others.  When I first started looking for a karate school, Sensei Everett’s school was one that I called.  I told him that I was a senior, and that I was interested in joining a school that would work with me to get the training I needed, and he gave me a guarantee that he would see to it that I would get the help that I needed in his school.  And I did!!  No matter what questions you have, he always has time for you.  Every student in his school is important, and his training is for the “real world.”  He has taught me the importance of being disciplined, to be patient with myself, and how being humble can promote self-confidence and respect to others.”

“I laughed when I heard that lessons in the Martial Arts would teach my child discipline, confidence, and
self esteem…..
But, now – she’s a Straight A Student,
Confident and, Respectful”
Give your child the gift of CONFIDENCE

Dear Parents,
I don’t blame you. I know what you’re thinking, “come on… how can martial arts lessons teach wholesome values and success skills?” Well I’m here to tell you in more ways than you can begin to imagine.

My name is Tom Everett and I’m the owner of one of the most successful martial arts schools in Indiana.

For the past 34 plus years I have been training in the martial arts and nurturing children like yours with character building tools found only in the Martial Arts. No other sport can match them. In the next few paragraphs I am going to tell you how you and your child can sample all of this and more. Watch your child increase in confidence, energy and spirit. Watch and be dazzled as your child becomes unstoppable in their quest for….

And all of it comes while learning the Martial Arts. Look at it this way. Your child’s first and biggest battle comes not from “fighting for his rights on the streets,” or “beating up the neighborhood bully.” It comes, instead, from battling more sinister forces. Your child’s own fears and self doubts:

“I’m not as smart as John”
“I don’t get what my teacher is saying”
“I wish I was as {strong, pretty, tall} as Sally”
“Why does Jim keep giving me a bad time?”
“Why can’t I be popular as Jill?”

The question is how to get your child to fight these demons? You know the problem. Your child has a tough time even telling you they are haunted by them. Never mind how they might conquer them.

Well the good news is I have a proven solution, a program that has already worked for 1,000s of children. A series of lessons your child can learn easier than you think.
Let me tell you the secret:

To repeat, Martial Arts is less about your child learning to fight others, and more about fighting…themselves. Their innermost fears. Conquer them, and your child unleashes a powerful unstoppable force, a force that gives them the strength to kick down the doors of their own self doubts…..A force that opens your child to the exalting power of values.

In other words, when your child uses the discipline of the Martial Arts to conquer their fears, they have the power to transfer that discipline to all other areas of their lives. I know of no other sport that does this better than the Martial Arts.

But don’t take my word for it...

“I wanted to write and express our pleasure with Ellie’s progress and overall experience in your school. As you know we have been around for almost 4 years and Ellie has never mentioned quitting or slowing down because obtaining her black belt is important to her. I will tell you this is the only activity she has stuck with remotely close to 4 years. We appreciate that your school is not a belt factory but you still seem to be able to keep the interest of the children by changing things up.
Ellie has always had a fairly high level of self confidence but I have seen a marked difference in her confidence level to try new things since she began with you. Ellie is not afraid to hop in and try almost anything once and I attribute much of this to her experience in your school. I have also noticed in her other sports such as soccer she is clearly not afraid to take a hit and this is definitely due to karate which if you recall is a tremendous improvement since the early days of sparring.
Our overall experience with your school has been very positive as parents and I am certain Ellie feels the same.”

Now you may be asking yourself…how does all this value stuff work? And how does the Martial Arts manage to do it better than other sports?
The Martial Arts gives your child the chance to explore their innate powers. They’ll marvel (as you will) as they increase in strength, flexibility, endurance, balance, and harmony.
This is only the start, in fact. Their physical skills act as a foundation for something much more important, the development of their value skills, mental and spiritual. And no cut off from their physical skills, but intimately connected- even bonded to them.

Values like Courage… Your child finds the courage to move outside their comfort zone. As they learn and master more difficult martial arts skills they become no longer afraid of being afraid.
As they do so, they learn that whatever they sow, so they reap. They learn to blame no one but themselves. They suddenly see their life as a constant, never-ending journey of life-giving improvement.
In short, with a deep breath, they refuse to become a victim of fate. They put an arm lock on their own destiny

Staying Power… Your child will find joy in their new physical stamina. They can walk farther, run longer, and practice skills over and over until they get them right.

In turn, they learn to not give up. They stick things out. With the help from their instructor they learn to strive longer and harder to reach her goals.

Even if they fail they will preserver… they will have a new self respect. They won’t let their self-doubts get in their way of finding ultimate solutions.

Honesty… As a man said, “Where performance is measured, performance improves.” Yet your child has to accept where they stand now. That means measuring current strengths. Above all, they learn to succeed… they can’t fool anyone… especially themselves.

This results in a keener focus. They learn to make eye contact with their teacher (and not just in the martial arts). They pay greater attention to what each teacher says. They know to accept where they stand.

These are just three of the powerful, energizing values your child will get from the martial arts. In short you can look forward to your child developing…

Powerful Self Control… the power to not give in to negative peer pressure. They’ll have a deep respect for rules.

Improved Focus… they’ll learn what’s needed, along with the skills to “zero in” on critical tasks at hand. Normal time-wasting childhood distractions won’t get in their way.

Fearless Confidence… watch your child find the confidence to open any door life has to offer.

Towering Role Model Teachers… As you might guess, all of this couldn’t have happened unless I had the very best teachers. To make sure I have the very best each of them started as white belt beginners, right here in my school.
Today they are all martial arts experts- advanced belts, in fact. Many have won awards. And all of them continue to receive continuing education from me on teaching, and nurturing young students, to bring out the best in those students.

All this talk of value may have misled you. Be assured, I do teach the martial arts better than everyone likes to think of it.

Your child will learn to defend themselves.
They will know how to avoid danger, how to use conflict resolution techniques to avoid having to throw a punch or kick.

However should they need to, rest assured they will know how to.
